FDNY-CRA
History and Accomplishments
Since March 2002 the FDNY -Carolinas Retirees Association has achieved many milestones. Membership has grown from 33 to over 150 members since 2002, drafting, and approval of By-Law, affiliation with the Uniformed Retiree Firefighters Association, and the publishing of' a monthly newsletter to keep the membership up to date with events and information of importance concerning retirees.
Social events held annually:
- Myrtle Beach Pelican Minor League baseball game
- Summer Picnic
- Annual Dinner Dance
- Golf Outings
- Casino boat cruises
Membership benefits:
- Quarterly newsletter
- CPR training classes offered by the Red Cross
- Providing transportation and assistance to members as required
- Support for widows of FDNY-CRA members
- Website www.fdnycra.org with up to date information concerning FDNY-CRA
- Strive to improve GHI participating physicians and Network Hospitals and
providers
- Guest speakers on subjects of interest to FDNY -CRA members i.e. What you
should know about cholesterol, physical fitness, taxes, social security, AARP
- Monthly meetings held in Calabash, NC and at least one meeting in other areas of South and North Carolina (in the past Cary, NC and Wilmington, NC)
States and Local Community involvement:
- FDNY -CRA Honor Guard in cooperation with the Calabash Volunteer Fire
Department in North Carolina
- 9-11 Memorial Golf Outing held each year in Myrtle Beach organized by the
members of FDNY
- Veterans Day ceremony participation
- 9-11 Memorial Services organized by FDNY-CRA at the Firefighters Monument
in Brunswick County Community College, North Carolina
- Attending the 9-11 Memorial Services in Charleston, SC and North Myrtle Beach,SC
- Participation in the St Patrick's Day parade in Charleston, Wilmington and North Myrtle Beach
- Donations made to members of the Police, Fire and Emergency Services of the
Carolinas for line of duty deaths or injury or personnel distress.
Organization and Events Supported:
- Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
- Calabash Volunteer Fire Department
- National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Walk * Armed Forces Members serving overseas
- Peace Corp.
- Hurricane Katrina
This is just a small part of what FDNY-CRA has accomplished in the past 3 1/2 years. With the help and support of the retirees of the FDNY and our affiliate members we can do more.
